EAR WAX Solution

 EAR WAX Solution

Earwax’s purpose is to lubricate the ear canal and trap bacteria, dust and other foreign substances which could enter the ear and cause problems.

Occasionally, it accumulates in sufficient amounts to seriously interfere with hearing.

  • It is not generally necessary to remove earwax. The ears should not be irrigated if you’ve had a perforated eardrum or mastoid surgery.
  • If the ear is healthy and wax persists, loosen with a few drops of room temperature baby oil or mineral oil applied with an eyedropper. Do this twice a day for several days.
  • Warm a small amount of hydrogen peroxide, tilt the head to one side and drop the peroxide into the ear, allowing it to stay there while you hear a fizzing sound for three or four minutes and gently remove with soft cotton.
  • Do not use a cotton wool bud as this only serves to make the wax more compact and drive it deeper into the ear.
  • A diet which is high in nutrition and low in fat, similar to that prescribed for heart patient, has been found to be beneficial for those with hearing loss that is not improved by the removal of earwax.
