How charming can you look with your nose like a dripping tap? The sinus and nasal cavities produce moisture 24 hours a day in an effort to keep the air entering your lungs properly humidified. Tiny hairs in your nasal passages keep those places clear but sometimes they slow down because of a cold or because they get dried out. When that happens, secretions form a pool in the back of the throat and you are left with postnasal drip.
- Clear out your nose by blowing it frequently; it will eliminate some of the excess drainage.
- Gargle with salt water, ½ a teaspoonful to a glass of warm water.
- Sniff a similar solution up one nostril at a time.
- Avoid hot and spicy foods.
- Avoid dairy products, as they stimulate the production of mucus.
- Drinks fluids.
- Humidify the air in your house.
- Avoid decongestants; they often create a rebound effect which makes the problem worse in the long run
