One of the first indications of MS is a slight weakness in some muscle, but other than that the person feels well. As times goes on, coordination decreases.
Multiple sclerosis is caused by deterioration of the myelin sheath which covers the nerves. Scar tissue gathers where this protective sheath used to be. The cause is known and the present there is no cure, but living with the disease can be made easier.
- Rest, give nerves and muscles time to recover from any effort.
- Minimize stress as it aggravates symptoms.
- Avoid hot shower and bath. Cool baths or swimming in an unheated pool may improve symptoms.
- Try massage, as it improves and maintain muscles tone.
- Maintain normal routine.
- Exercise gently, to improve muscles tone.
- Follow your doctor’s instructions and take your prescribed medications.
