STYES 6 TIPS
Styes are acute localized infections of one or more glands of the margin of the eyelid.
- Don’t poke or squeeze the infected area.
 - Hot compresses should be applied for 10 minutes several times a day.
 - An antibiotic ophthalmic ointment should be applied for several days to prevent spread of the infection to other locations.
 - The hands should be kept clean; rubbing the eyes should be avoided. Take care to avoid transferring the infection to the uninvolved eye.
 - Keeping hands and face clean is one of the best ways to avoid such an infection.
 - Moistened herbal tea bags: chamomile, goldenseal – root applied to the lid as a natural antiseptic are good if you are prone to styes.
