Those little tiny ulcers inside your mouth that make everything you eat so painful –why do some people get them not others?

Nobody seems to know but they do seem to be related to bad habit heredity, some food allergies, over enthusiastic weiding of the toothbrush and emotional stress.

They can last from 4 to 20 days and make eating and drinking painful.

  • Yoghurt to fight the bacteria and cottage cheese to neutralize mouth acids can be applied directly to the lesion to reduce the pain.
  • Avoid chewing gum, mouth wash, coffee and any foods that you know can trigger an attack.
  • Eat salad with lots of onions and garlic.
  • Dampen a black tea bag and apply to the ulcer. It contains tannin, an astringent that has good pain relieving ability.
  • Dilute 1 tablespoonful of hydrogen peroxide in a glass of water and swish it around your mouth to disinfect the ulcer and speed its healing.
  • Swish some milk of magnesium around your mouth. It will cover the ulcer and protect it from the food you eat while it heals.

Home Remedies

  1. Banana is a good home remedy to cure mouth ulcers. Consume a ripe banana by mixing it with curd.
  2. Guava leaves Along with white catechu, chew some fresh and soft guava leaves, which will heal the ulcers within some days.
  3. Basil leaves They are frequently used as a basic ingredient in cooking. Studies have shown that basil leaves are an effective remedy to treat mouth ulcers. Chew 4 to 5 leaves to treat mouth ulcers.
  4. Onion Onion is a great source of sulfur so try to consume eat a fair amount of raw salad, including onions. You can directly consume raw onions and also add onions to other food preparations.
  5. Coconut milk To treat mouth ulcers, gargle with coconut milk 4 or 5 times a day as it helps in healing faster. To get better results, you can also add few spoons of honey in it.
  6. Lemon Pulverize the skin of a lemon and a white catechu to prepare a fine paste. Apply this paste on ulcer to cure it effectively.
  7. Fennel Boil 2 tsp of fennel in a glass of water. To the water, add a piece of roasted alum. Use this water as a gargle for mouth wash. This is very simple home remedy for the mouth ulcers.
  8. Rose water Combine rose water with glycerin and apply this mixture on ulcers. This is also a good treatment for mouth ulcers.
  9. Indian Blackberry Grind fresh and tender leaves of the Indian Blackberry to prepare paste. Take one glass of water and mix this paste. Gargle mouth with this water to treat mouth ulcers.
  10. Orange juice Vitamin C deficiency may be a cause of your mouth ulcers. So, remember to drink orange juice regularly. Drinking 1 or 2 glasses of orange juice a day is sufficient. You can directly take Vitamin C pills if you don’t like oranges.
  11. Peppermint oil Peppermint oil has anesthetic property so dab some peppermint oil on ulcers to reduce irritation and pain of mouth ulcers. Use it only in small doses as it produces adverse effects in large quantities.

  1. Acacia catechu (Kattha) An extract of the Acacia catechu plant, Kattha has caustic properties. In Ayurvedic medicine, Kattha is widely used in oral treatment. For the treatment of ulcers, it is utilized in many forms.
  2. Terminalia chebula (Chebulic Myrobalan) A component of the Triphala choorna, the chebulic myrobalan helps in reducing the pain of the ulcers. It also helps to correct the constipation troubles, which is mostly the reason for the constipation.
  3. Fenugreek (Methi) In the treatment of mouth ulcers, fenugreek has also an essential role. A mixture of fenugreek leaves is utilized for gargling in mouth ulcers. It is a strong mediator on the ulcers so it is used as a medicine for repeated ulcers.
  4. Emblica officinalis (Amla, Indian Gooseberry) Amla has a double impact on ulcers. It is used as a gargling solution and can reduce the pain of the ulcers. Secondly it can reduce constipation, which is generally one of the significant factors causing ulcers in the mouth.
  5. Glycyrrhiza glabra (Jethimadh, Licorice) Licorice is utilized to treat number of oral and dental problems. Stem and leaves of the licorice rinse the mouth effectively. Aside from treating the ulcers, it can invigorate the mouth and clean the teeth.

  7. Henna (Lawsonium alba) Henna is also a cooling herb, which provides a soothing effect on the ulcers. To prevent mouth ulcers, it is utilized with water for gargling.

GOOD

  • Consume only soothing foods like ice-cream, yogurt, and custard.
  • Between meals, sip a half cup of cranberry juice.
  • Drink cool water or other cooling drinks with the help of a straw.
  • To clean your teeth, use soft brush.

BAD

  • Keep away from spicy, hot, and fermented foods, & hard foods like toast, nuts, etc.
  • Also, avoid caffeinated drinks like coffee and tea.
  • Avoid smoking and drinking of alcohol.
  • Try to stay away from stress.
