There are grumpy, irritable people and grumpy, irritable bowels.
You can have a grumpy irritable bowel without being a grumpy, irritable person –it means that certain foods drinks and stressful events give you alternating bouts of diarrhea, constipation and abdominal pain.
- If something seems to irritate the condition, eliminate it from your diet.
- Eat on a regular schedule, don’t overeat on the run.
- Add fiber to your diet– it helps prevent constipation. Include mueslicrispbread, and whole grains. Because fiber can cause gas, add it gradually.
- Avoid fatty foods.
- Limit dairy products –milk can cause abdominal cramping, gas and diarrhea.
- Avoid dietetic sweeteners – they can cause diarrhea.
- Drink six to eight glasses of water a day.
- Cut out fat as it is a stimulus to colonic contractions.
