HERPES GenitalHERPES ORAL

Genital herpes is a very prevalent sexually –transmitted disease but since we have heard so much about AIDS, we seldom hear much about genital herpes anymore. After a initial illness which feels very much like the flu, you have burning sores on your genitals.

  • Acyclovir by prescription can reduce the outbreaks. If taken on a regular basis. However, once the drug is stopped, it is possible a more serious outbreak can occur, with fever, extreme flu like symptoms, nausea and vomiting.
  • Avoid citrus products while having an outbreak, as citrus can make the urine more acid. Creating more pain upon urination.
  • To ease the pain and swelling, ice packs can be applied to the area for 20 minutes at the time. Warm Epsom salts or baking soda bath can also be soothing to the pain.
  • After the bath, pat the area dry gently and keep the lesions dry.
  • Avoid sexual intercourse with any individual who has active herpes lesions. It is the best to use a condom to avoid transmission of the disease.
