POSTURE CHECK AND CARE
Image isn’t all of it, however. It is the way to prevent backaches, neck pain and even foot problems. Poor posture wears the discs away – the shock absorbers in your spine – and loosen the ligaments that hold 33 bony segments together properly protect your spinal cord.
- Begin with basic stretching daily. This corrects any misalignment that has happened during the night.
- If you stand for long periods, raise one foot on an elevated box, and it will release back tension.
- Roll a small towel up and put it into the back of your chair: it will promote good posture while you seated.
- Sit with your knees level.
- Don’t sit with your legs crossed, as it throws your body out of alignment.
- Sleep on your side with your knees bent and firm pillow under your neck.
- Don’t sleep on your stomach.
- Exercise to keep your muscles strong which will, in turn, keep your spine properly aligned.
