POSTURE

POSTURE CHECK AND CARE

Slump along and people will ask you if you’re sick. Stand tall, walk with confidence and everyone will know you feel like a million. What kind of a message do you want to send to the world?

Image isn’t all of it, however. It is the way to prevent backaches, neck pain and even foot problems. Poor posture wears the discs away – the shock absorbers in your spine – and loosen the ligaments that hold 33 bony segments together properly protect your spinal cord.

  • Begin with basic stretching daily. This corrects any misalignment that has happened during the night.
  • If you stand for long periods, raise one foot on an elevated box, and it will release back tension.
  • Roll a small towel up and put it into the back of your chair: it will promote good posture while you seated.
  • Sit with your knees level.
  • Don’t sit with your legs crossed, as it throws your body out of alignment.
  • Sleep on your side with your knees bent and firm pillow under your neck.
  • Don’t sleep on your stomach.
  • Exercise to keep your muscles strong which will, in turn, keep your spine properly aligned.
