Just thinking about public speaking often causes a dry mouth. Words stick in your throat and your tongue seems to be glued to the roof of your mouth.

  • Resist the temptation to drink very cold beverages: they will contribute to increasing an already tense throat.
  • Avoid any liquids that contain dairy products, such as tea with milk: they increase mucus or phlegm and escalate the difficulties of talking.
  • Opera singers for generations have used warm tea and honey to lubricate the mouth, warm the vocal cords, and create an oral environment that makes vocalizing easy.
  • If you’re really get stuck in the middle of an –important speech, gently but subtly, chew on your own tongue. This chewing action will produce sufficient, saliva to moisten your mouth within a few seconds.
