Everybody gets them and nobody wants them. There is still no cure for the common cold, even though we can put men in orbit and walk on the moon.
The sneezing, the runny nose, the headachy feeling, a common or garden variety of cold can keep you home from work –but there are some things you can do to make getting through the week, which is the time a cold usually last, a little more comfortable.

- Take vitamin C, found in oranges and grapefruit; it is an excellent antioxidant.
- Suck on zinc lozenges at very first sign of a cold. Zinc changes the acid balance of the climate in the nose and throat, where cold bugs prefer to get a foothold, and makes it more difficult to them to do so.
- Rest and relax. Take some time yourself, just watch television, read and sleep for few hours. You’ll feel better and you’ll get better sooner and you won’t be spreading your cold germs to everyone at work.
- Drink at least 8 glass of water, juice or other clear liquid each day.
- Smoking will aggravate a throat that is already raspy, so this is sa good a time to kick the habit as any.
- A warm salt water gargle will help you feel better too.
- Take a steamy shower to clear up the congestion and then bundle up and get into bed before you get chilled.
- If your nose is sore from blowing and wiping, put some petroleum jelly both inside and out.
- Throw used tissue away and wash your hands before and you touch your face again so you don’t reinfect yourself and your family.
