The coughing is exhausting. You feel as if it comes all the way from your toes; it keeps you from sleeping and you are worn out. You have bronchitis.
Bronchitis is inflammation of the upper breathing tubes that lead to the lungs.
This inflammation creates irritation which causes constant coughing, a build- up of mucus, accompanied by fever, back and chest pain, a sore throat and difficulty in breathing.
Acute bronchitis is the result of an upper respiratory tract infection and often ends up in pneumonia.
Chronic bronchitis is frequently irritations of the airways but is not an infection. Often this chronic condition is caused by allergies.
- Stop smoking. This is most important thing you can do.
- If an allergy is the cause then the allergen should be pinpointed and avoided, if possible.
- Drink plenty of fluids to loosen mucus.
- Add moisture to the air to ease breathing. Eucalyptus oil added to a vaporizer can aid in the relief of symptoms.
